The internet can still
feel like a discovery.
GrayCloud is an independent collection of places to imagine, experiment, and exhale. You don’t need a goal to come in.
Three windows. One idea.
The Department of Unfinished Ideas gives a home to possibilities. The Lab puts a few tools in your hands. Quiet Weather makes room for the part of your day that doesn’t need an outcome.
Follow an idea into an experiment. Let an experiment become a daydream. Or skip the whole itinerary and listen to the rain.
A work in possibility.
Our dossiers are original, speculative concepts from the GrayCloud editorial desk. They describe things that could exist; they are invitations to explore, not reports of existing projects.
GrayCloud is a personal project by the owner of graycloud.net, created with the assistance of AI for writing, artwork, and software. Human contributions are welcome and credited separately.
A little care goes a long way.
Your device. Saved dossiers, Lab notes, and weather settings are stored in your browser. They stay on this device, and can disappear if you clear your browser data. Lab text is not sent to our server.
Your contributions. Voting and submissions use a secure browser cookie that lasts 90 days. We store a random visitor ID with your votes; this is not a verified identity. Clearing cookies starts a new visitor record. Votes are informal expressions of interest, not a verified poll. Cloudflare Turnstile checks for spam when you join. A salted, temporary fingerprint of your connection helps limit abuse; raw IP addresses are not stored in our contribution database. Submissions also include your chosen public name, text, and submission time. Your submission stays private pending review; submitting gives GrayCloud permission to publish it with your chosen credit. Don’t include private information or someone else’s work without permission.
A thoughtful place. Be kind, stay curious, and discuss the idea rather than attacking the person. No spam, harassment, or personal information about others. Contributions may be declined or edited with your involvement before publication.
The sound of weather. Natural field recordings accompany original, imagined landscapes. These are quiet atmospheres, not live forecasts or location tracking. Audio starts only when you choose it. Motion respects your device’s reduced-motion preference.
The people behind the sounds.
AMB Rain Loop 2 by KresiekTheFurry and the wind recording from Park ambiences by Thimras are shared under CC0.
Rain and Thunder Loop by DoKashiteru is used under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0. GrayCloud trimmed, equalized, adjusted the levels, crossfaded, and encoded these recordings for gentle looping playback.
The castle windows and four weather landscapes are original AI-assisted artwork created for GrayCloud.
